Poe - The Series?

Man - I just don't know what to think about this. I should be thrilled - but somehow I'm underwhelmed by an ABC 1840's crime drama centered around Edgar Allan Poe and his time in Boston. Maybe it's the casting of the lead (the hunky blond Christopher Egan) or the rest of the fabulously beautiful cast, but something just doesn't seem right about this. I've been a Poe enthusiast for years - so I'm obviously very protective of his legacy. Let's hope ABC gets it right and doesn't turn this into the disaster waiting to happen that I think it will be...

Poor Edgar. First Rufus Griswold, and now this.

Personally, I feel pretty confident this thing will be a laughingstock of truly Biblical proportions, but I suppose I'll watch, to see just how godawful it'll get.

I know what you mean. Years of hard work by Poe scholars to clear Poe's name and undo the damage done by Griswold's 'biography' - only for it all to be undone by a greedy television corporation. And it's started already: notice how in most of the press you see about this show that Poe is portrayed as an opium crazed madman. The term 'sinking feeling' comes to mind when I think of the way ABC is going to approach this...
